Tips for your first own Internet Presence

Business Card, Hobby Presentation, Club Life, Business

Web business cards are already as popular as printed business cards.
Because it is so easy to present oneself with one's own website, many users do not leave it for long with a web business card …

Invest in a Hosting Plan…

  • at least ~3 EUR per month to have fun with a small hobby website
  • at least ~5 EUR per month to have real fun with powerful website
  • at least 20 EUR per month for success with your commercial web presence

For a big commercial web presence the budget must not be too tight!
The above amount does not include consulting costs (web designer, advertising etc.).

A badly made Web Presence harms your Business

Do not rush anything, better start small and smart.
If budget, computer skills or time are very limited, start with a small web presence.
Use a good free CMS (open source) for this. It can grow with you.

Software is not expensive if chosen correctly

If no large corporation with many branches and domains needs to be centrally managed, a well-selected free CMS will also meet the requirements in the long term and grow with its tasks (keyword: plug-ins, which are easily retrofittable software modules, free of charge or inexpensive from the developer).
In addition to security and regular software maintenance by the developer, user-friendliness should have the highest priority, because otherwise you will constantly need expensive specialists even for the simplest tasks, or you will have to release and train your own employees for this task, which may be even more expensive.

For user-friendly web content management systems (WCMS, usually simply abbreviated to CMS), it is sufficient to create job aids once in order to document work processes for all clerks. Then even a staff member who is not often involved in web design will quickly get to grips with it when, perhaps after a few weeks of other work, he or she suddenly has to change something on the website. This will usually only be a text, perhaps a new page or an old one is to be moved or deleted. With most industry-standard CMS, even such simple tasks are almost impossible for inexperienced employees to manage.
With the right CMS, the work is no more difficult than with a word processor, so it can be done quickly on the side without much training.

PHP is already included in the smallest Hosting Offers

Since 2013, the PHP, which is absolutely necessary for CMS operation, is already included in the smallest hosting offers of the large web hosters for 3–4 EUR.
For demanding CMS projects, however, I would like to advise against the mostly inefficient low-budget offers.

As soon as your online offer is a big business success, you will need your own web server, but until then – and for private individuals anyway – one of the many offers for shared hosting will suffice. Here, more or less many customers (isolated from each other) share one server …

Shared Hosting: too many Customers per Server spoils Performance

Check how many customer sites the hoster puts on one server: https://hostadvice.com/tools/whois/#
The information on this service is not one hundred per cent up-to-date, but it is suitable as a guide.

If you want to know this in good time before you sign the contract, enter a domain in the input field that you know is hosted by the provider of your choice. There are hosters that guarantee a low maximum number of customers per virtual server. These are certainly not the cheapest rates, but they are also not necessarily the most expensive.

(little by little I will add more tips to this page – if you are interested, have a look at it again from time to time – thank you!)

Is there a CMS that grows with the Demands?

Therefor I recommend a look at my software section CMS …
