SanDisk Extreme Plus microSDXC 64 GB

Memory Card in the Practical Test

This memory card has been in production since 2013 and now costs only a third of the entry price at that time.

This Memory Card is particularly suitable for

  • all devices whose manufacturers have specified their memory card expansion only up to 64 GB
  • all those who do not want to “put everything on one card”, but use several of these cards to be on the safe side
  • small budgets (top performance for a small price)

Personal Experience with that Memory Card

Originally purchased for my favourite smartphone BlackBerry P'9982, where it has worked absolutely reliable.
Since a few months it works error-free in my old BlackBerry Z10, used as a spare device also for testing new apps and firmware.

Big Collection of Music Files on microSDXC

I listen my music collection usually as MP3 files on my microSDXC memory card in my smartphone. Therefor I had converted my collection of purchased compact discs to MP3 with highest quality. Some CDs I have saved als WAVE (.wav) file.

Photograph not on slide film but digital on microSDXC

Photos made with my smartphone will be saved on the memory card in general, because at a sudden death of the smartphone I will lost no image.

Backup of the Backup

The complete data I copy with regularity to an external hard disk drive because even a memory card can have a defect or could be ruined by a malfunction of the device.

Current Using of this microSDXC

After I had bought a SanDisk twice as big, this memory card was temporarily put in the drawer, because I had also bought a SanDisk with 128 GB for the second device BlackBerry Z10. Unfortunately, this large memory card of the first generation was not reliable.
So I used the SanDisk Extreme Plus microSDXC 64 GB again for a while in the BlackBerry P'9982 until SanDisk released the second generation of their 128 GB card. This one is flawless, so I've been using the 64GB card in my second device, the BlackBerry Z10, ever since.

Pros

  • reliable
  • Very fast (not measured, subjective impression)

Cons

  • High price
  • stated speed is rather theoretical

The high price has long been history. In the meantime, this memory card costs only about 29 EUR, a third of what it did back then.

Due to a lack of measuring equipment, I cannot check the manufacturer's specifications and according to test reports, most memory cards do not achieve the values or only under very specific conditions. General observation, not specifically related to this memory card.
However, the speed/transfer rate that can be used also depends very much on the smartphone and computer with which the data is processed.

More important than top speed is reliability – and here, too, this memory card has never disappointed me!

Conclusion

Highly recommended!

If you are on a budget and get an offer with a price up to 45 EUR then it is worthy.
It is also recommendable if you have an older device without the capability to use memory cards with more than 64 GB.
If you need the highest performance don´t buy the older version. In that case choose the last generation of this excellent memory card.

Tip: some vendors are very carefully with their statements about the maximum size of memory cards or do not update their website.
For example Smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Note or the BlackBerry Z10 had the capability to use memory cards with a size of 64 GB right from start.

It´s your own risk if you buy a bigger sized memory card as the vendor recommends.
But in worst case use the microSDXC memory card with the SD Adapter in your digital camera or MP3 player or as a backup storage for the notebook.
Side benefit: because of the higher performance of this microSDXC memory card you can make faster serial photo shoots depending from the capability of the camera model.

Tip: if the newly purchased memory card cannot be read by the device intended for it, it may only need to be reformatted with this device. All the data on it will be lost, so please first back up the data from the memory card to hard disk if anything has already been saved on it.

Alternatives

If it's not speed that matters to you, but max. storage space, because these are all much slower than the Extreme Plus!
